OMG! I am still trying to catch my breath after reading this book. This is the second book in the Shadow Wood Chronicles. It is just as good if not better than the first one. We learn a bit more about the core characters and why Alex was the chosen one, so to speak. He has a rare power to strip other witches of their powers. But in learning new information we are left with new questions. The push and pull between Alex and Mason is...I don't even know how to describe it. I hope these two get their HEA and the rest of they guys in the coven. I usually don't read books with witches and stuff, but this one is so good and very interesting. I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed, but you do need to read the first one to follow the story.

Shadowed Choices, book two of the Shadow Wood Chronicles, is an intriguing story about a teenage boy in a new town who discovers his new friends and home are more than they appear. The town has a paranormal history and his new friends and love interest are deep in the middle of it. Alex is plunged into the middle mysteries and it turns out, he’s one of them. This is a young adult read with suspense and a developing romance by coauthors Dee Jornday and Konstatine Alexandre.
Choices picks up speed from book one and if you have as many questions from book 1 as I did, this provides more backstory and more details about who Alex meets and where his is. Where Wood was a slow build, Choices places us in medias res. Although happening over the course of about a month with the close detail as in book one, Choices propels us deeper into the world of Shadow Wood and the supernatural intrigue in which Alex finds himself.
In this installment of Shadow Wood, Alex is trying to find his footing with his new magickal abilities and trying to find his place in this paranormal community. We get to see and learn more about Alex’s family. That fleeting mention of Alex’s uncle at the beginning of book one turns into something far more ominous and threatening.
For Alex, the revelation of his magickal abilities, a mysterious magickal ancestry, the attack and threat on his life, and his ability to strip another of their magick (which saved his life at the end of book one) may be too much for him to handle. The local coven, made up of his friends and their parents, is pursuing him to join them. Alex, for his part, is frustrated with his own limited knowledge of this new world he’s stepped into and with the coven elders who are suspicious and covetous of Alex. He’s also terribly frightened since his one power could strip all his new friends and his love interest of their powers.
Alex has cause to be cautious. His powers have not fully manifested and he doesn’t understand or control the one he has. His new cordre are certainly loyal and protective though not always the most forthcoming. There’s more development of each of the big men on campus, and Alex’s relationships grow and deepen. Nathaniel and Benjamin become a lot closer to Alex replacing Petr. The connection between Alex and Petr becomes problematic but resolution seems on the horizon for book three. Mason becomes much more than just the brooding figure after whom Alex pines. He emerges as a much more prominent figure with a lot more potential. They grow closer especially when Alex joins the lacrosse team. Even as Alex keeps him at a distance, Mason becomes more pro-active. The action is still PG even if Alex’s fantasies get more graphic.
Threats against Alex specifically and Shadow Wood more generally are imminent. In the climax, once again Alex’s connection with Mason saves him, and though Alex’s own powers scare him, Mason’s might be a match.
I really like Alex of book one; he comes across as an exceptional young man responsible, thoughtful, conscientious, etc. In Choices I think we see more of his insecurities and for me he becomes more 3-dimensional for them. His reluctance about Mason is a little frustrating. Sure he’s learned he can strip another wytch of their powers but that was in the middle of an extreme situation. Also, it seems unlikely that a teenage boy in love or at least in lust with another person would have such restraint.
His reluctance to join the coven is equally confounding. I’m not sure why he doesn’t want to join the coven especially with the threats to his person and his friendship with the sons of the coven leaders but he continues to defy them.
One niggling detail has bothered me though, you do not, and Alex would not, beat dough for banana bread, not unless you want it inedible; however, if the first book left you wanting more of the Shadow Wood, Choices will have you craving the next installment.
Shadowed Choices
This wonderful story is told by Alex... a seventeen year old boy who just discovers that he has powers and everything around him isn’t what it seems at first sight.
There are a lot of events and characters and my advice is to read this one direct after finishing #1
The connections are mostly not by words... they read... minds.. like all the auras were for everyone to see.
With all the changing environments from high school to parties with tuxedos and handcuffs it was very entertaining... and even more enchanting
And there he was... joining the lacrosse, he doesn’t want to, but somehow... there he was, part of the team and now he will see Mason every day! And oww did I want to push them together... it was almost unbearable. Slow burn it to painful for me ;)
The bond of the cove is undeniable, it’s strong and protective.
Beautiful and powerful people all around, some with rare powers
Again there is an amazing way of observing the surroundings it was almost like I was walking next to Alex, looking around, and see what he saw.

All the protective posture... loved it!
All the heavy tension between friends... loved it!
The Magick and secrets... loved it!
The writing style... loved it!
The building up... loved it!
All the sky high hormones... loved it!
All the environments... loved it!
The layers still to peel... loved it!
The developing... loved it!
The push and pull between Mason and Alex... I didn’t love... it just I wanted them to jump each other LOL
The goosebumps at the end with the promise of much more... loved it!
